Americans for the Arts and the Ad Council have partnered to create a multi-year national public service advertisement campaign to promote the need for more arts education opportunities for children. The campaign kicks off in January 2002, and it will educate parents on how the arts are essential to a child's development, and more importantly, identify ways for parents to ask for more art for their kids. A generous $1 million grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation served as the catalyst in the development and launch of this initiative that was created by the nationally recognized advertising agency, GSD&M of Austin, Texas. In October 2002, a series of hip-hop TV spots were created in partnership with Chuck D. and Marc Herbert Productions.

The goal of the ART. ASK FOR MORE campaign is to encourage and assure parents and other concerned citizens that it is they who are actually the most compelling supporters for arts education. The campaign strives to supply parents and the general public with information and resources on this website that help articulate the place of the arts in the curriculum as both a full academic discipline (for which standards have been developed) and as uniquely empowering activities and ways of thinking that carry over into other areas of life and study.
