The Hannibal Cox, Jr. (HCJ) Cultural Grants Program provides funding and technical assistance support to mid-sized semi-professional and professional arts, scientific and historical organizations with a year round presence in Miami-Dade County of presenting, performing or exhibiting a full season of cultural activities. Applicants to this program must have a least a three year consecutive track record of providing year round professional artistic programming and presentation in Miami-Dade County and an annual operating budget between $100,000 - $250,000, including in-kind support of no more than 25% of total revenues. Units of government are not eligible to not apply.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RETURNING APPLICANTS: The Department of Cultural Affairs is implementing a new application review policy for this grants program. Returning applicants will have the option to submit a completed application, including all required support materials, no later than one full calendar week in advance of the grant program’s published application deadline for a thorough “Courtesy Review” by the Program Administrator. Returning applicants who waive their option for a Courtesy Review and submit their applications by the grant program’s published deadline will receive a technical sufficiency review only. Applications received from first-time applicants by the grant program’s published application deadline will be reviewed by the Program Administrator and are exempt of meeting the program’s Courtesy Review deadline. For more information about the Courtesy Review policy, please refer to the DEADLINES section of the grant program guidelines.
As a component of the technical assistance offered through the HCJ Program, each grantee is able to access a subsidy for eligible expenses travel, consultant(s) and/or technical assistance. Funds may be applied to opportunities that directly enhance the artistic and/or administrative quality of the organization, such as conference travel, workshop attendance, board development consultants, etc. Carefully review the HCJ Travel/Consultant Assistance Program Guidelines and the HCJ Travel/Consultant Assistance Program Application and Final Report Form, and contact Gilda B. Mooney at (305) 375-2131 with questions.
