The Art Gallery

Wischer, Wendy,
The exhibition, entitled Overflow, will feature Angels and Ancestors, XVII, which is a site specific work created by Wischer specifically for the Art Gallery at Government Center.

As the artist states, “Living in both rural and urban settings has brought the natural and urban worlds together in my work. The natural world stirs a nostalgic affection and strong sense of identity while at the same time, the excitement of an urban environment and refined technology prove to be equally intoxicating. With a minimalist approach to form and a conceptual approach to process, I am lured to re-define the shape of my environment, explore the body as landscape, the topography of technology, and the mapping of time, space and memory.”

Wischer’s interest in light lies in the fluidity of the medium. It is both tangible and intangible at the same time. Light is performance by nature, yet when projected on a flat surface it becomes a two dimensional image. The presence of the viewer can change the movement and the reflection of light, making evident the existence of its occupation in space.

Through her work, Wischer aims to redirect attention to the smaller things in life exposing the sacred within the mundane and the monumental within the minute. Thoughts and memories, experiences and environments continuously appear and reappear in overlapping fragments.

Wischer was a recipient of the 2008 South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship for Visual and Media Artists.
