Dana joined the Cultural Affairs staff in April 2006 as Cultural Grants Administrator for the Community Grants Program. After working for over six years with many new and developing community based groups, she now administers the Youth Arts Enrichment Program (YEP) and the Summer Arts and Science Camps Program (SAS-C) and continues to serve on the AKI- All Kids Included Arts Initiatives committee within the Department. Before joining Cultural Affairs, Dana worked in Miami-Dade County’s Department of Parks and Recreation’s Leisure Access Division that works with children and adults with disabilities.
Dana has a Master’s Degree in Community Art Education with and Advanced Graduate Certificate in The Expressive Arts. During her studies at the University of South Florida, she worked with Kosovo refugees on a project; “Art as a Sense of Place”, and she interned with the VSA state office in Tampa. The highlight of her studies was her participation in the University’s “Paris Summer Study Program” and finishing the term with a visit to the Venice Biennale. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development from the Florida State University.
Dana worked for many years as a Child Life Specialist at the Tampa Children’s Hospital at St. Joseph’s and coordinated a Children’s Bereavement Program for Hernando-Pasco Hospice prior to moving to Miami. She used the arts and play therapy to help children and their families understand illnesses, procedures and cope with grief and trauma and continues to work on healing arts projects. Dana currently serves on the advisory board of the Village of Palmetto Bay Art in Public Places Program and Cultural Educators of Miami - C.E.M. Steering Committee.
