The Westchester Cultural Arts Center, a new cultural facility to be built within Tropical Park, 7900 SW 40 Street. The Center, which is funded by the voter-approved Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond program, will provide cultural programming and instruction focusing on Hispanic arts and culture and will serve the needs of residents in the western region of Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department worked together to develop program and project scope for the Center which will be an important element of services provided to the community at the park.
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Javier D. Souto, District 10, and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs held a public meeting on July 27, 2016 to unveil plans for the Center. Zyscovich Architects introduced the design and building plans which include a 200-seat Studio Theater, Dance and Rehearsal Studio, Lobby/Gallery space, class rooms and office space. The public response has been positive. Commissioner Souto and the Department of Cultural Affairs are currently incorporating public comments into to the final plans.
