human rites - Bass Museum

Examines ritual through art; or examines art through ritual, depending on your point of view. From mundane human activities to sacred practices, from the past through the present, rites and rituals have been pervasive subjects in artistic practice. Human Rites presents works such as 15th century devotional polychrome statues of Mary and 16th century altarpieces alongside works by renowned contemporary artists. This juxtaposition of works circumscribes the timelessness of rituals, expressed historically and anthropologically in religious, as well as other contexts.

kolkoz - Bass Museum

French artists amuel Boutruche and Benjamin Moreau live and work in Paris under the Kolkoz moniker. They create art in a diverse range of mediums that spans from video to sculpture and installation. One of their recent series turns the idea of framing art on its head creating sculptural forms using just the frame. These works consist of multiple frames within a frame. Ornate gold borders are assembled together in an Escher-like optical illusion with no image at all.

Natural Disasters of the Caribbean, 1495-2010 - HistoryMiami

For thousands of years, the people of the Caribbean have endured earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and hurricanes. The most powerful of these occurrences wreak havoc upon humans. This exhibition will present images and objects relating to historic disasters, beginning with the first recorded event—a ca. 1500 hurricane described by Christopher Columbus.

Volf Roitman: From MADI to The Ludic Revolution - Frost Art Museum

Revolution is a series of major works celebrating the 60-year-long career of Uruguayan painter, sculptor, architect, novelist, playwright, filmmaker, and humorist Volf Roitman. Samples of Roitman’s work from the ‘50s to the present will be on view, including a splendid array of motorized, kinetic works of a humorous style. The exhibition will celebrate the Ludic, or playfulness and whimsical, which is the basis of his creations. His newest innovations include giant MADI banners and MADI lightboxes.

They believe that all nature is endowed with spirits. Illness is believed to come from the supernatural realm of these spirits. Tap Tap: Celebrating the Art of Haiti - Frost Art Museum
