The Miami Emerging Arts Leaders, a leadership development program of the Department of Cultural Affairs, identifies and cultivates the next generation of arts leaders in our community. Modeled and named after a successful program initiated in 1999 by Americans for the Arts, the nation's leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America, the program invites arts professionals of any age and any demographic to participate.
The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs created the Miami Emerging Arts Leaders in 2004 in response to the need to develop diverse, professional arts leaders of color, nurture young and/or new arts administrators, and address community-wide leadership succession planning in Miami-Dade County.
The initiative provides networking and resource sharing opportunities to encourage arts administrators to explore professional development issues and opportunities. Miami Emerging Arts Leaders meets monthly for events, meetings and workshops at various cultural venues throughout Miami-Dade County. These activities are currently occurring virtually, due the COVID-19 pandemic.
Who are the Miami Emerging Arts Leaders?
The Miami Emerging Arts Leaders are young and/or new arts administrators, generally under 35 and/or with less than 5 years of experience in arts management. Emerging Leaders share the desire to enhance their leadership capacity and the drive to develop innovative, effective and responsible management practices.
