Carolina Alfonso joined the Department of Cultural Affairs in 2006, as a Construction Projects Manager. She is responsible for the management, development and contract execution for diverse projects including currently existing facilities, projects funded through the General Obligations Bond Program and the Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places Program.

She is a State of Florida Registered Architect (RA) and member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Carolina is also a State of Florida Registered Interior Designer (RID) and a certified professional by the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB). She is qualified as an Accredited Professional on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design in Building Design and Construction (LEED AP BD +C).

Prior to her work in the County, Carolina worked for the private sector for over a decade. She has extensive experience in the management of construction operations, as well as experience working for architecture firms and general contractors in both public and private projects with budgets in excess of $60 million dollars.

Carolina’s educational background consists of a Master Degree in Construction Management from Florida International University, a Professional Bachelor Degree in Architecture from Florida Atlantic University, and a Bachelor Degree in Architectural Studies from Florida International University. Carolina has also earned a certificate in Project Management from Florida International University’s College of Business. A native of Nicaragua, Carolina is fluent in English and Spanish.
