HistoryMiami Museum is currently seeking a talented, entrepreneurial individual for the role of Development Associate. This position is responsible for participating in all fundraising activities with particular focus on annual fund and grant writing.  S/he will work closely with development leadership and key HistoryMiami program stakeholders to maximize funding and program support opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Researches external funding sources through various grant databases and the internet.
  • Conducts customized searches to locate and evaluate prospective funders.
  • Develops grant proposals (including research proposals) to government, private foundation and corporate funders.
  • Assists with tracking grant implementation with the completion of programmatic, financial and other progress reports to funding sources.
  • Works with related staff to assure grant contracts are completed per guidelines and submits all final reports
  • Stewardship of current and past donors, foundations, corporations and other partners with regular written updates and reports.
  • Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting, which includes use of Raiser's Edge in the Advancement department.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic plan for annual fund raising campaign, including Give Miami Day.
  • Write acknowledgement letters
  • Projects as may be assigned from time to time by the VP Advancement

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Must have museum or academic grant writing experience
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at a time and work on a deadline
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, proofreading, organizational and planning skills
  • Positive, flexible attitude with attention to detail
  • Strong follow-through capabilities
  • Raiser’s Edge, database management, Excel, PowerPoint and related systems knowledge and experience
