Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami, Florida, seeks to fill a Learning Programs Manager position (School Programs). Vizcaya is a National Historic Landmark that is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. In conjunction with the estate’s approaching Centennial, efforts are underway to transform visitor experience through expansion into the historic Vizcaya Village and to enhance the institution’s role as a vital community asset.

This Learning Programs Manager is a position that entails specific knowledge of museum education theory, teaching and learning strategies, curriculum development and community partnerships. This position will play a key role in visitor engagement by managing programs for school students and K-12 educators. This position spends extensive time in public areas with staff, volunteers and visitors, with evening and weekend work required. The successful candidate will be highly organized and possess excellent interpersonal  skills.

  • Manage school programs (K-12 students and teachers) by making the historic collections and facilities (Main House, Formal Gardens, Village) of Vizcaya relevant and educational for a broad spectrum of Miami-Dade County students and teachers through support of the museum’s Education Philosophy and Interpretive Plan.
  • Manage existing school partnerships and develop new partnerships especially to support new school programming in the Vizcaya Village.
  • Raise the profile of school programs within the community working in collaboration with colleagues in Learning and External Relations.
  • Develop professional development for K-12 teachers. Maintain Teacher Workshops and launch Teacher Institutes.
  • Develop formal and informal evaluation tools for ongoing assessment of school programs to positively affect program growth and enhance the scope of Vizcaya’s impact working with colleagues in the museum as well as external consultants.
  • In collaboration with the Guiding Programs Manager support training and performance evaluation of Guiding Program corps (volunteers and staff) especially related to school programs.
  • Develop family and youth oriented tours and interpretive resources.
  • Identify long and short term goals for School Programs that support strategic goals of the Learning Division and Vizcaya under the guidance of Deputy Director for Learning and Visitor Experience.
  • Develop phasing and prepare to implement school programs for the Vizcaya Village in accordance with the master plan.
  • Conduct tours for school, college and adult groups and the public throughout the estate.
  • Manage administrative functions related to school programs: budget development, reporting and tracking, program statistics, stakeholder database.
  • Participate on institutional planning teams including: Interpretive Planning Task Force and Visitor Services Task Force.
  • Represent the museum externally with professional organizations and partners in the community. Participate in professional development to remain informed regarding new research and practice to develop new skills and enhance existing skills.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Humanities, Social Sciences or related field and two years of experience as a museum educator or education administrator in a visual arts and/or history museum, or related environment are required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are preferred.
