The Chopin Foundation is seeking a full-time Marketing and Development Director. The successful applicant will play a key role within the Foundation and will be responsible for the execution and oversight of all outward facing content, communication, and messaging for the Chopin Foundation and its signature programs and events. This is a very hands-on position.
Job Description
While ideally an in-person position, remote working options will be considered for the right
candidate. This person will assume responsibility for creating, executing, delivering, and monitoring
all social media projects, online activities, member relations, CRM database, and development
activities. This includes but is not limited to the following:
Marketing/Public Relations – Manage website on Squarespace, conceptualize, design, and schedule
social media posts (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), and email newsletters (Constant
Contact). Expand audience and elevate events and programs by developing clear promotional plans
including digital marketing, advertising, and outreach.
Polonaise magazine – Assist with gathering materials and coordinating the production, editing,
design, printing, and distribution/mailing of the magazine that is printed up to twice each year.
Annual Scholarship Program for Young Pianists – Review applications, assist the Scholarship
Committee, and coordinate all activities from promoting the program nationally to arranging the
disbursement of scholarship awards.
Chopin Foundation Memberships and Development – Oversee annual membership campaign, craft
appropriate acknowledgements, cultivate potential members and donors, oversee and maintain
CRM program (Bloomerang)
National Chopin Piano Competition (to be held next in 2030) – Coordinate public outreach,
advertising, and promotion. Arrange logistics for contestants, jurors, and all parties involved in the production of the Competition. Assist the Competition Director in all activities related to the nine-day national event.
Desired Characteristics and Skills:
• Ability to coordinate marketing and outreach efforts independently and with outside
consultants to promote events and programs through emails, social media, Eventbrite,
calendar listings, and monitor all campaign analytics.
• Must have a proven track record across all platforms and be able to show examples of
successful campaigns.
• Tech savvy with competency in using office software including Office 365 (a must), Adobe
Creative Suites, Photoshop and InDesign/Canva or similar programs (required).
• Brand consciousness and basic graphic design skills (a graphic designer is available for more
complicated projects), able to generate, write, and schedule content.
• Organized and detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with little or no supervision.
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders including Foundation members, music enthusiasts, sponsors, vendors, venues, and artists.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English with creatives, sponsors, volunteers, and others. Excellent writing and communication skills a must. Spanish is a plus.
• Strategic and creative thinker.
• Highly motivated, responsible, self-starter with discipline and capacity to work independently as well as cooperatively and able to set priorities to meet deadlines.
• A good sense of humor and love of classical piano music couldn’t hurt. A belief in and passion for the Chopin Foundation’s mission would be ideal because there is room for advancement.
Qualifications:
• 5 years of successful relevant experience (required)
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, Masters (preferred)
• Experience working in the arts, with non-profits, or a related field (preferred)
• Preference given to local candidates who will be expected to attend and assist with all
Chopin Foundation events including nights and weekends.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to
sit, stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to
feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee
must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds on select occasions. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7 to 8 hours per day (flex hours possible); evenings and weekends when
needed. Time off will be provided for weekend hours worked during events.
Salaried Position: $60 – $70,000 annually commensurate with experience
